Black Swan

For many many centuries, mankind has asked the question what is beauty? What is graceful? What is art? This debate has been so heated the only way to answer it even vaguely...."Is in the eye of the beholder"

To be or not to be is what Shakespeare asked as a basic question in Hamlet, there fore what we are can be many different things to different people such is the complex life of an artist,to self express is to be free yet to have the key elements is to have discipline this has driven many into madness even self mutilation or death.

When a door closes and window opens is what we are told yet for many artist it is after they are dead when their work or complexities there of comes to life.

After many years of practice in the New York ballet company, Nina Sayers(Natalie Portman)finally gets a chance to try out for the leading part of "Tchaikovsky's"Swan Lake. Black Swan is about a perfectionist whose art and grace are questioned constantly by the director of the ballet (Thomas Leroy ). Questioning her desire and ability to be able not to be graceful but be seductive and dark leading in to a dark psychological struggle between what is the right way to play or portray a character and what is perfection.

In Every type of competition whether of an Athletic nature or Artistic nature in many ways both has one thing in common, the strive of perfection, whether it is a perfect game or a season.

In the Movie, Black Swan has a deeper meaning....a Swan Song, which by definition is a final gesture or performance, given before dying or retirement.

2reviewz gives Black Swan 4 1/2 stars, it is as deep as is artistic .
